The JP Taravella High School NAF Academy of Finance is a NAF Distinguished Academy -- one of only 77 in the 644-Academy network throughout the US!  

NAF Academy of Finance (AOF) curricula is created in partnership with industry professionals and is designed around projects that help students make connections across subject areas, acquire valuable workplace skills, and see their education as a step toward long-term career success.  

This program connects high school students with the world of financial services, offering a curriculum that covers banking and credit, financial planning, securities, insurance, accounting, taxes and economics.  Students will participate in a variety of experiences to enhance classroom learning, including work-based learning activities, field trips, guest speakers, and cooperative learning projects.

JP Taravella NAF Academy of Finance is....
A five-course program that leads to a completion of a Tech-Prep area of study.  

NAF Academy of Finance courses include:
  • Business & Entrepreneurship Principles Honors (recommended in 9th grade)
  • Economics & Financial Services Honors (recommended in 10th grade) NOTE: THIS IS NOT THE SAME ECONOMICS THAT IS TAKEN SENIOR YEAR to satisfy graduation requirement!
  • Accounting Honors (recommended in 11th grade)
  • Financial Internship Honors (Summer between junior and senior year)
  • Personal Financial Planning Honors (12 grade only)

Completion of AOF enables students to participate in the Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars program, and earn QuickBooks industry certification.  The Academy of Finance is a certified Career Academy (CAPE) in accordance with the Florida Department of Education.

NAF Academy of Finance students participate in a sequence of work-based learning activities which prepares them to make informed college and career choices and allows them to acquire necessary college and career-readiness skills.

JP Taravella NAF Academy of Finance Students have the opportunity to earn NAFTrack Certification by meeting the following criteria:

  • Completing a 150-hour NAF AOF Internship (summer between junior and senior year)
  • Earning a passing score on each of four culminating work-based learning projects (typically one per NAF AOF Course):
    • Business & Entrepreneurship Principles H (NAF Customer Service)
    • Economics & Financial Services H (NAF Applied Finance and/or Financial Services)
    • Accounting H (NAF Principles of Accounting)
    • Personal Financial Planning H (NAF Financial Planning)
    • Virtual Enterprise/Mgmt & HR (NAF Entrepreneurship)
Earning a passing score on the End of Course exam for each of the above courses
